Your Thursday Three Things for April 25, 2024
Things that reside at the intersection of wellness and leadership.
Hey everyone,
Jon Macaskill here… and yes, again I want to acknowledge that I’m sending two of these in the same day. Forgive me as last week’s got caught up in my outbox. Please don’t unsubscribe!
Ok, so, here I am - coming at you with your weekly dose of what's cool and helpful at the intersection of wellness and leadership. As a former Navy SEAL turned mindfulness teacher, I know a thing or two about the challenges of keeping both your mind and your leadership skills sharp. So, grab a cup of coffee and jump into this week’s finds!
1. App Alert: Reflectly
So, you know those days when you're spinning your wheels, feeling all over the place? I found this slick app called Reflectly. It’s a journal app that talks back—kind of like a mini-therapist in your pocket. It uses AI to give you daily prompts and help make sense of your rollercoaster emotions. Spending just a few minutes a day with it can seriously boost your clarity and chill. Perfect for us leaders trying to keep our cool and stay sharp.
2. Book Buzz: "Leaders Eat Last" by Simon Sinek
Ever wonder why some teams just gel and others... don’t? Simon Sinek nailed it in "Leaders Eat Last." It’s all about making your team feel safe and valued. Now, this doesn’t mean leaders don’t “EAT!” Leaders still need to take care of themselves in order to take care of the team. It’s about putting your folks’ needs at the forefront, which can really glue a team together. If you're trying to build a team that sticks together through thick and thin, this book is your playbook. It’s a solid read for anyone stepping up their leadership game and wanting to inspire the heck out of their crew.
3. Podcast Pick: Ten Percent Happier with Dan Harris
Alright, if you haven’t checked out "Ten Percent Happier" yet, you’re missing out. Dan Harris is this news anchor who turned into a mindfulness guru after a live TV panic attack—talk about a wake-up call, right? His podcast is all about making mindfulness practical. He chats with psychologists, mindfulness pros, and even skeptics. It’s like having a no-BS conversation about how to be a bit happier and a lot less stressed. Super useful for us trying to lead with a calm, clear head.
And that’s the scoop for this Thursday. Whether it’s tackling your inner chaos, inspiring your team, or just finding a moment of peace, remember, it’s all about taking it one step at a time and enjoying the journey.
Catch you next week for more cool stuff. Until then, keep leading with heart and chasing those zen moments.
Cheers,
Jon
